On May 17, 2019, a diverse assembly of thought leaders and community builders in the Peel Region will meet over breakfast, at the Red Rose Convention Centre in Mississauga, to recognize International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOT).
This year’s IDAHOT Breakfast theme, We Belong: Justice for All, will explore the role we can all play in ensuring the fundamental human rights of our 2SLGBTQ+ neighbours. Building on the tremendous success of last year’s We Belong: Voices of Youth event, we will discuss the day’s significance in our communities with the aim of generating forward-moving momentum in challenging homophobia, transphobia and other barriers to inclusion in corporate, political, social, cultural, religious, and recreational spheres.
2SLGBTQ+ communities belong in Peel Region, a community that strives to be a safe, respectful, and inclusive place for all of its residents to call home. Join us for We Belong: International Day Against Homophobia Breakfast 2019, to make your voice heard in the movement to enhance 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion in Peel Region.

Moyo Health & Community Services (formerly Peel HIV/AIDS Network) has been a leader in the social service sector of Peel Region for more than two decades. Our vision is optimal health and wellbeing for all.
We strive to improve the lives of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in our community with programming and initiatives that foster a sense of belonging and inclusion. Our influence in strengthening 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion in the region at a policy level is borne out through our leadership in the region-wide LGBTQ Collaborative, and Pride in Volunteering project conducted in partnership with Volunteer MBC.
Community members benefit from our educational programs, leadership training, facilitation of mentorship and networking opportunities, and advocacy work. Additionally, we offer a series of trainings for service providers that aim to enhance organizational competencies in 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion, and to combat homophobia in our community. All proceeds of We Belong: Justice for All will go towards Moyo’s programs and services in support of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
We asked LGBTQ folks hailing from the Region of Peel to tell us about their experiences, hopes, and dreams for the future.
Here are their stories.
